12 Days Cycling
Description
Day 1
Transfer to Kidia Village. Take in the picture postcard viewpoint at Mawa Seminary of Kilimanjaro with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight camp at Marangu Hotel. Distance covered on this day is 20 kilometres.
Day 2
After breakfast start biking from Marangu, the most famous starting point to climb Kilimanjaro, to Tarakea just by the Kenyan border. Dinner and overnight at Tarakea Police Station. Distance covered on this day is 52 kilometres.
Day 3
After breakfast bike from Rongai to West Kilimanjaro, through the forest North of Mount Kilimanjaro with the opportunity to encounter blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalo and elephant. Dinner and overnight at Lerang’wa Primary School. Distance covered on this day is 57 kilometres.
Day 4
This is a long and hard day. Bike through savannah land down and up to some small hills down to the plains of the Masaai land, cross the north of Arusha National Park with views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight at Ngare na Nyuki Secondary School. Distance covered on this day is 66 kilometres, most of it downhill.
Day 5
After breakfast, start from Ngare na Nyuki, turn right to main road of Namanga Road (Arusha to Nairobi road) once you reach the main road, load the bikes on the vehicle and head to a small village near Longido Town. Set camp for dinner and overnight in Longido. Distance covered on this day is 34 kilometres.
Day 6
Early morning hike to Longido Mountains for those who will be interested. Introduction to Masaai culture via the Longido Cultural Tourism Project. Come back for lunch, rest and some might like to bike around the village in the evening. Dinner and overnight at campsite in Longido.
Day 7
Start early in the morning after breakfast. Bike through savannah land towards Masaai villages and Kitumbaine Mountain. Dinner and overnight at Kitumbaine. Distance covered on this day is 52 kilometres.
Day 8
It is another day that you will be biking in a Masaai Land with good view of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Kitumbaine Mountain and Gilai Gilai Mountain. Dinner and overnight at Gilai Bomba. Distance covered on this day is 34 kilometres.
Day 9
After breakfast load the bikes on the vehicle and drive to the Hole of God. From here a difficult day cycling on a sandy and dusty road to Engaruka. Distance covered on this day is 20 kilometres.
Day 10
You have a very scenic day, biking across Masaai villages on the escarpment of the Rift Valley. Descend along the rift valley escarpment down to the shores of Lake Manyara. Dinner and overnight at Kiboko Camp. Distance covered on this day is 51 kilometres, on a sandy road.
Day 11
After breakfast descend down the crater for a six hour tour, return to Kiboko Camp for overnight.
Day 12
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. Afternoon go for a walk with the Mto Wa Mbu Cultural Tourism Programme to find out about life in this multicultural village. Late afternoon return to Moshi and end of safari.
