Local Empowerment

We are proud members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project a local NGO that provides continually monitoring of the working conditions of the hard working mountain crew.

We are one of the few operators who can guarantee that all of our crew are given 3 meals a day, proper clothing and sleeping conditions and government regulated salaries.

You can be sure you are climbing with a conscious as all our climbs are independently certified ethical.

Our operations ensure that we provide a socially and environmentally sustainable and responsible supply chain and work force.

All our safari guides have graduated from guiding schools in Moshi or Arusha, most have close to 10 years experience.

Our head guide Rama is a first aid trainer and trained English teacher. Our safari guides speak a number of languages. English, French, Spanish, Italian and German, we also work with guides who can speak Russian and Japanese if required.

On the mountain, our top guides all have Wilderness Responder First Certification as well as guiding licenses issued by Kilimanjaro National Park.

We actively support local communities, and make a conscious effort to include cultural tourism projects which benefit local communities into our itineraries. Especially Mto Wa Mbu, Engaruka, Monduli Juu and Marangu.

From Engaresero Village, Lake Natron we supplied a water pipeline  to the local clinic and fund the village school. Currently we are building a Kilimanjaro village classroom near Mwerka, and recently constructed a Doctor’s house at Naiti village near Makayuni.

Tanzania Journeys is proud to be one of the biggest supporters of Kahawa Shamba for over a decade at Uru village on Kilimanjaro.
